UE-initiated Service Request Procedure in stack
Reference: 5.6.1.1 of 24.501
The Service Request procedure is used for transitioning the UE from 5GMM-IDLE to 5GMM-CONNECTED mode.
This procedure is initiated by the UE or triggered by the network via paging or notification procedures.
This feature is currently missing in our 5GMM implementation.
UE-Initiated:
- Uplink signaling or user data pending in 5GMM-IDLE mode.
- No user-plane resources established for PDU sessions in 5GMM-CONNECTED mode.
PDU Session Management:
- Establishment of user-plane resources for PDU sessions under specific constraints based on the Multiple user-plane resources support bit in the 5GMM capability IE.
State and Conditions
- TAI of the current serving cell is in the TAI list.
- No ongoing 5GMM-specific procedures.
- 5GS update status is 5U1 UPDATED
What is needed:
- State machine in the 5GMM layer (5GMM Mode, 5GMM state)
- Callback based on trigger (e.g., uplink signaling/user data)
- Service Request Attempt Counter as per 5.6.1.7.
